TRANSFORMERS: DARK OF THE MOON Trailer

transformers-3-optimus-prime-slice-01

The theatrical trailer for Transformers: Dark of the Moon has landed online. We see some pretty fantastic looking footage on the moon, followed by some really impressive stuff back on Earth. We’re talking full-on invasion this time around. We get our first look at Frances McDormand as well. However, as we all know from the second flick Revenge of the Fallen, simply watching robots fight for 2+ hours does not a good movie make (understatement). This one has to be better thanRevenge of the Fallen, right? Hitting 3D theaters on July 1st, Michael Bay’s Transformers: Dark of the Moon stars Shia LaBeouf, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Josh Duhamel, John Malkovich, Frances McDormand, Tyrese Gibson, Patrick Dempsey, and voice work from Hugo Weaving, Peter Cullen, and Leonard Nimoy.

Here’s the first synopsis for Transformers: Dark of the Moon:

When a mysterious event from Earth’s past erupts into the present day it threatens to bring a war to Earth so big that the Transformers alone will not be able to save us. The movie stars Shia LaBeouf, John Turturro, Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Patrick Dempsey, Kevin Dunn, with John Malkovich and Frances McDormand.

New Trailer for THE HANGOVER PART II

the-hangover-2-slice

Warner Bros. has released a new trailer for The Hangover Part II. Overall, I’m pretty happy with this new trailer. It gives a solid sense of setting, does a good job of setting up the obstacles without giving too much away, and makes use of a track from the new Kanye album (always a plus, for me). Nevertheless, I can’t help but feel as if the trailer is a little too self-referential to the original (i.e. Alan’s love of terrible toasts and penis jokes, and Stu’s fear of once again breaking his teeth). Just my opinion, though.

Here’s the trailer [from Apple]:

Here’s the official synopsis for The Hangover: Part II:

THE HANGOVER PART II

(Warner Bros. Pictures/Legendary Pictures)

Comedy. In the follow-up to the record-breaking hit comedy “The Hangover,” Phil (Bradley Cooper), Stu (Ed Helms), Alan (Zach Galifianakis) and Doug (Justin Bartha) travel to exotic Thailand for Stu’s wedding. After the unforgettable bachelor party in Las Vegas, Stu is taking no chances and has opted for a safe, subdued pre-wedding brunch. However, things don’t always go as planned. What happens in Vegas may stay in Vegas, but what happens in Bangkok can’t even be imagined.

New Trailer and Images for PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: ON STRANGER TIDES

Disney has released a new trailer for Rob Marshall’s Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.  I want to be excited for this flick but I still have mixed feelings on it.  On the one hand, I can’t believe that the plot is yet again “Jack must get the Black Pearl back from another pirate.”  But on the other hand, once the Pirates‘ theme music kicked in near the end of the trailer, I suddenly became pumped to return to this crazy world and see more adventure on the high seas.  There are some good jokes in the trailer, some imaginative designs, and I hope that this movie delivers.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer along with two new images.  Pirates of the Caribbean stars Johnny Depp, Penelope Cruz, Ian McShane, and Geoffrey Rush.  It opens in 3D on May 20th.

New Trailer for RED RIDING HOOD

Warner Bros. has released a new trailer for Red Riding Hood, which opens similarly to theNovember teaser before it delving deeper into the plot.  Amanda Seyfried (Letters to Juliet) stars as Valerie, a beautiful young woman torn between a brooding outsider (Shiloh Fernandez) and the wealthy man of her parents’ dreams (Max Irons).  Unfortunately, one of them may be the wolf that terrorizes her village.  (Such virility is a turn-on, but werewolves are notorious commitment-phobes.)  Gary Oldman, Billy Burke, Virginia Madsen, and Julie Christie also star.

Catherine Hardwicke (Twilight) directed the gothic re-imagining of the familiar tale; Red Riding Hood is due in theaters March 11.  .

Everything looks and sounds so silly, but there’s no sense that Hardwicke is playing it any way but straight.  Is this camp?  A period piece set to nu metal?  A Twilight knockoff?  I don’t know yet.  I believe Red Riding Hood could turn out really well, and I’m digging on the snow-covered sets.  But I haven’t seen greatness in either of the trailers.

Judge for yourself.  Watch in HD at Apple.

In Red Riding Hood, Seyfried plays Valerie, a beautiful young woman torn between two men. She is in love with a brooding outsider, Peter (Shiloh Fernandez), but her parents have arranged for her to marry the wealthy Henry (Max Irons). Unwilling to lose each other, Valerie and Peter are planning to run away together when they learn that Valerie’s older sister has been killed by the werewolf that prowls the dark forest surrounding their village. For years, the people have maintained an uneasy truce with the beast, offering the creature a monthly animal sacrifice. But under a blood red moon, the wolf has upped the stakes by taking a human life.

Hungry for revenge, the people call on famed werewolf hunter, Father Solomon (Gary Oldman), to help them kill the wolf. But Solomon’s arrival brings unintended consequences as he warns that the wolf, who takes human form by day, could be any one of them. As the death toll rises with each moon, Valerie begins to suspect that the werewolf could be someone she loves. As panic grips the town, Valerie discovers that she has a unique connection to the beast–one that inexorably draws them together, making her both suspect… and bait.

International Trailer for WATER FOR ELEPHANTS Starring Reese Witherspoon and Robert Pattinson

20th Century Fox has released a new international trailer for Water for Elephants.  Based on the novel by Sara Gruen, the film tells the story of a man who joins a traveling circus during the Great Depression after his parents die in a car accident. While at the circus, he finds himself falling in love with one of the main stars of the show, who is married to the circus’ cruel and violent animal trainer.  The film stars Robert Pattinson, Reese Witherspoon, Christoph Waltz, Hal Holbrook, and the always great and underused Paul Schneider; Francis Lawrence (I Am Legend) directs.

I’m personally a bigger fan of the previously released theatrical trailer simply because of its use of Nick Cave and Warren Ellis’ score for The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, but this new trailer isn’t too shabby. The film continues to look promising.

Water for Elephants open on April 22.  Via /Film:

Here is the official plot synopsis for Water for Elephants:

Veterinary school student Jacob (Pattinson) meets and falls in love with Marlena (Witherspoon), a star performer in a circus of a bygone era. They discover beauty amidst the world of the Big Top, and come together through their compassion for a special elephant. Against all odds – including the wrath of Marlena’s charismatic but dangerous husband, August (Christopher Waltz) – Jacob and Marlena find lifelong love.
